In September, several of our ICTS leaders attended the CORES Annual Meeting hosted by The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Translational Research Institute (UAMS TRI) in Little Rock, Arkansas. This meeting was a gathering of representatives from each academic medical institution involved in the Consortium of Rural States (CORES), a collaborative research consortium working to improve health in rural communities with funding from the Clinical & Translational Science Award (CTSA) of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) at the National Institutes of Health.
The CORES member institutions are; Dartmouth Synergy Clinical and Translational Science Institute, Penn State Clinical and Translational Science Institute, South Carolina Clinical & Translational Research Institute, University of Arkansas Medical Sciences Translational Research Institute, University of Iowa Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, Frontiers Clinical and Translational Science Institute at the University of Kansas, University of Kentucky, University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, and the Utah Clinical and Translational Science Institute. During the University of Iowa Institute of Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) members' time at the CORES Annual Meeting, they attended sessions with expert presentations on various topics, including some of ICTS’ very own; Heather Schacht Reisinger presented on “Evidence Based Practice and Implementation Science: Comparing Strategies Utilized for Rural Innovations, Heath Davis presented with Brenda Heaton of the University of Utah on “Development of an Informatics Knowledge Base for Medical-Dental EHR Integration,” and Korey Kennelty presented “Opportunities for IreNE and the Pharmacy Outreach Programming (PCORI).”
The attendees also participated in sessions on Implementation Science, Rural CTSA Integration with Partners, Dental Care: Opportunities for Collaborations in Chronic Disease Management, Rural CTSA Strategies to Enhance Healthcare Workforce, and were able to have focused breakout sessions with peers at partner institutions serving in roles like their own.
Thank you to the UAMS Translational Research Institute for hosting a wonderful Annual Meeting. Next year, this meeting will be hosted right here at the University of Iowa by the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science.
