External Data Sharing
Data originating from University of Iowa Health Care (e.g., EHR or financial data) must remain within the Health Care Covered Entity, unless otherwise specified directly in the informed consent.
There is a UI Health Care process to review projects that share Healthcare data outside of the Healthcare environment. This review process includes:
- Checking for consistent language regarding the sharing between contracting, IRB, and the external data sharing form
- Ensuring appropriate documents have been routed to the appropriate UI contracting organizations
- Security review of third-party applications for data transfer or storage
- Confirming sharing is aligned with institutional and federal policies
