Iowa 500 Study

Muscatine Heart Study 

  • Defined cardiovascular risk factors in children

Established Populations for Epidemiologic Studies of the Elderly Study 

  • Advanced knowledge of risk factors for functional decline in older adults

Women's Health Initiative

  • Redefined clinical practice regarding the use of estrogens in postmenopausal women
  • Iowa was the top recruiting site (out of 40 sites nationwide) 

Iowa's track record and the remarkable population stability provide a fertile ground for integrating research across the lifespan, for engaging patients, communities and other stakeholders in research, for impacting healthcare practices in underserved rural communities, and improving the health of rural populations.
