Data Request
This service provides access to clinical data for scientific research from our electronic health record (EHR) and Enterprise Data Warehouse or Research (EDW4R).
Electronic Medical Record Search Engine (EMERSE)
EMERSE (Electronic Medical Record Search Engine) is software that helps researchers accurately find important patient details like diagnoses, medications, procedures, and complications from clinical notes.
ICTS-BMI can use this tool to identify computable phenotypes built on these unstructured data elements. EMERSE is an information retrieval tool.

Data Enclave
This computational resource provides storage appropriate for use with campus tools Argon (HPC) and Interactive Data Analytics Service (IDAS) when using University of Iowa Health Care clinical data.
Enterprise Data Warehouse for Research (EDW4R)
The backbone infrastructure for real-world data in clinical and translational science, the EDW4R contains data from electronic health record systems and other sources. Best practices for EDW4R’s continue to evolve. Benefits of EDW4R include more effective and efficient clinical and translational science support through access to EHR data curated by informatics experts to facilitate research.

External Data Sharing
A UI Health Care process to review projects that share Health Care data outside of the Health Care environment. This review process involves:
Checking for consistent language regarding the sharing between contracting, IRB, and the external data sharing form
Ensuring appropriate documents have been routed to the appropriate UI contracting organizations
Security review of third-party applications for data transfer or storage
Confirming sharing is aligned with institutional and federal policies
Data Attestation
The Attestation Data Access Agreement is a legal document between the researcher and the University of Iowa for the secondary use of UI Health Care clinical data for research.
The primary use of UI Health Care clinical data is for clinical care. To be able to use UIHC clinical data for research purposes, researchers must attest and complete the requirements outlined below
