Personal Statement
I have the training, experience, and motivation to substantially contribute towards the mission outlined by BERD and the other ICTS cores in our CTSA grant application. My background in biostatistics has greatly shaped my research interests, which include applications in biomedicine and public health, development of model selection criteria, categorical data analysis, and statistical computing. I am confident that that these skills appropriately support my role as a research consultant and collaborator.
I have worked with investigators from a variety of fields on numerous projects, resulting in multiple publications and presentations. Furthermore, I recently participated in and completed a National Research Mentoring Network Mentor Training Workshop, allowing me to develop the skills necessary to lead my biostatistics core in our various collaborative efforts. The current application builds logically on my prior work and will continue to foster my professional growth.

Contribution to Science
1. My publications in the field of statistics focus on model selection criteria. Inspired by the concordance statistic from the logistic regression framework, I developed an adjusted variant that takes into account the difference in predicted probabilities, yielding a more meaningful measure of predictive discrimination. Three model selection criteria were subsequently developed based on cross-validatory analogues of the traditional and adjusted concordance statistics. Finally, I investigated an alternate approach to pseudo-likelihood model selection in the generalized linear mixed modeling framework, leading to valid model comparisons.
