ICTS recognizes team science is an imperative facet of discoveries that evolve from bench discoveries to bedside practice and back. We are committed to promoting the development of teamwork skills within the academic community, and within community partnerships that engage community practitioners, service agencies, and patients.
Competency areas
In accordance with recommendations by a recent National Academy of Sciences committee (2015, National Research Council), ICTS focuses efforts on building competency in the three basic areas:
- Team composition and assembly
- Team process facilitation
- Leadership
Tippie College of Business collaboration
The ICTS has established a unique collaboration with the UI’s Tippie College of Business to nurture translational science teams. This collaboration is led by Greg Stewart, PhD (Professor of Management and Organizations and a Henry B. Tippie Research Fellow). Dr. Stewart is an internationally recognized expert in interdisciplinary team function.
Over the past two years, the Team Science Core developed a complete program that delivers teamwork training to the translational workforce, with particular focus on team composition, conflict management, and leadership.
Integration
The ICTS’ Team Science training has been delivered to approximately 250 participants across campus since 2015. We have also facilitated Team Science consultation to Pilot Grant recipients to ensure team success.
Team Science will continue to be integrated into our Masters and Certificate programs as well as our Pilot Grant Program.
Upcoming sessions
Information about future trainings will be posted here.
