Community & Patient Engagement

diverse hands

The Community & Patient Engagement Core develops and tests innovative methods of engagement to ensure the inclusion of community and stakeholder input in all aspects of translational research.

Our ultimate goal is to accelerate the adoption of research into community practice and policy.

What We Do

We provide the following support:

  • Education and training
  • Assist investigators in establishing bi-directional partnerships with stakeholders
  • Nurture provider networks to conduct research and disseminate findings

These networks have supported more than $52 million in funding by the NIH, AHRQ, PCORI, CMS, and other entities since 2008 to improve healthcare delivery and patient outcomes.

Audiences

  • Rural populations
  • Veterans
  • Underrepresented minorities served by Iowa's Federally Qualified Health Centers

Future Projects

We have been testing novel approaches such as telehealth and team-based care strategies to address geographic and cultural implementation barriers.
