PILOTS Grant Application Form

 

Funding Details

  1. Up to $25,000 for a 12-month funding period starting in March 2022

  2. No University of Iowa faculty salary or meeting travel will be supported

  3. It is expected that pilot projects lead to grant or contract submissions

  4. Publications that result from the pilot grant program, in whole or in part, must recognize support of the Institute’s Pilot Grant Program

  5. A progress report is required at the end of each funding period

Awardees will be required to attend one Team Science workshop after award announcement

Projects are strongly encouraged to include one of the following components:

  1. Community Stakeholders

  2. Rural Health

  3. Special Populations, most targeted by the CTSA community includes underrepresented minorities, LGBTQ+, older adults, and children. Other populations will be considered based on the proposal.

ICTS Services (Mobile Technology Lab; Clinical Research Trials Office; Biomedical Informatics; Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design; Qualitative Core; etc.) used for this project are available at no cost to awardees. Please reach out to ICTS Cores as your team designs the pilot study to establish appropriate scope.

 

Application

  1. Two-stage application
    1. Submit a one-page letter of intent (LOI) with individual faculty NIH or NSF Biosketches due October 11, 2021. LOIs should be sent to Jamie Thrams (Jamie-thrams@uiowa.edu)
      1. Specific Aims: Provide at least one specific aim along with brief rationale (full application will require more in-depth description)
      2. Expected Significance: Provide a brief description of how this project will contribute to advancing translational research (more detailed description required in full application).
      3. If your project engages stakeholders, rural health, or special populations as defined above, please describe how in a brief statement
    2. Applicants will be notified after October 27, 2021 if they have been selected to submit a full proposal
    3. Selected applicants will be asked to submit a full proposal through InfoReady Review (https://uiowa.infoready4.com) by November 24, 2021. The proposal should be limited to 5 pages

        2. IRB application unique to the study of the pilot application (Clinical Trial

          studies should start their IRB application as early as possible to meet

          this requirement)
        3. Abstracts/Relevance (maximum of 250 words/2,000 characters, including spaces)
        4. Specific Aims
        5. Background and Preliminary Data
        6. Research Plan
        7. Budget
          1. Justification
