About our Research Navigators
Gretchen Cress, Child Health Research Navigator
Gretchen Cress, RN, BSN, is the ICTS child health research navigator and the assistant nurse manager for the Clinical Research Unit and the Department of Pediatrics. As navigator, Gretchen is the “go to” person for child health related research at the University of Iowa. She provides information about ICTS services and helps researchers gain access to a variety of research resources such as biostatistics analysis, research coordinators, IRB assistance, and much more.
Gretchen will receive a master's degree in public health in May, 2013. She has 10 years of experience as a pediatric obstetric staff nurse with 18 years of clinical research experience. She is a member of the International Association of Clinical Research Nurses and has published various papers related to intensive care in preterm babies.
Gretchen oversees the child health research coordinators and nurses who provide specialized nursing support for research studies and protocols throughout UIHC. Although these research nurses primarily work on studies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby Care units, they have also assisted with protocols in other areas located throughout the hospital (e.g., vaccine trials, outpatient clinics, intensive care units, etc.) when investigative procedures can not feasibly be performed in the ICTS Clinical Research Unit facilities.
