Protocol Approval Process

All studies conducted in the CRU must be approved by the CRU Protocol Review Committee (CRU PRC). Each protocol must include a safety plan that is reviewed by the Research Safety Committee. If this committee recommends approval of the safety plan, the protocol is then reviewed by the CRU PRC. Industry-sponsored and approved and funded protocols that have been peer-reviewed externally (for example, NIH awards) received expedited review by ICTS staff. Protocols that have not been peer-reviewed or not industry-sponsored are reviewed by a member of the CRU PRC and by an external reviewer (generally a UI faculty member). All protocols are then considered for final approval at monthly meetings of the CRU PRC.
