Collect a “fasting” blood sample into a pre-chilled vacutainer (lavender top) containing EDTA as the anti-coagulant. Immediately centrifuge the blood for 15 minutes at 1500 x g in a refrigerated centrifuge set at 4o C. Quickly transfer the clear plasma to a labeled 12 x 75 mm polypropylene tube, held on ice. Store at -80o C until time of assay.
The homocysteine method (HPLC with fluorescence detection) requires 100 µl of plasma.
