PLASMA RENIN ACTIVITY PRA SAMPLE COLLECTION
Collect blood into a pre-chilled vacutainer (lavender top) containing EDTA as the anti-coagulant. Do not use heparin as an anti-coagulant. Centrifuge the blood within 30 minutes of collection at 1500 x g for 15 minutes in a refrigerated centrifuge set at 40 C. Transfer the clear plasma to a labeled 12 x 75 mm polypropylene tube. Immediately store at -80o C until time of incubation and assay.
The DiaSorin GammaCoat I125 Plasma Renin Activity radioimmunoassay is used to quantitate the generation of angiotensin I (ng/ml/hr) and is referred to as PRA.
