The NIH Public Access Policy implements Division G, Title II, Section 218 of PL 110-161 (Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2008). The law states The Director of the National Institutes of Health shall require that all investigators funded by the NIH submit or have submitted for them to the National Library of Medicine's PubMed Central an electronic version of their final, peer-reviewed manuscripts upon acceptance for publication, to be made publicly available no later than 12 months after the official date of publication.
We'd like to remind all ICTS researchers that the NIH Public Access Policy applies to any and all final peer-reviewed manuscripts arising from NIH funds accepted for publication as of April 7, 2008. We're committed to adhering to this policy, because it underscores just how important NIH funded research is to the public, to our colleagues, and to the advancement of healthcare science in general. We require your adherence to this policy as a means of assisting the ICTS fulfill our mission of advancing clinical and translational science by bringing together the university and the community in a multidisciplinary research and training environment to improve the health and well-being of Iowans and people worldwide. This policy of making our research easily accessible to the masses only enhances the "bench to bedside" approach that fuels our work.
